March Gourds Features Erika Moss Gordon & Leigh Robertson
TELLURIDE – The Talking Gourds Poetry Club presents two Ridgway poets, Erika Moss Gordon and Leigh Robertson, for its First Tuesday poetry reading, March 3rd at 6 p.m. at Arroyo’s Telluride.
Gordon writes poetry, works for a film festival and teaches yoga. Her first collection of poetry, Of Eyes and Iris, was published by Liquid Light Press in 2013.
Robertson got turned onto writing by Mrs. Petrowski, an amazing elementary teacher in Parsippany, New Jersey, and has been most recently inspired by the wonderful Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer. She’s a co-author of Southern Rocky Mountain Wildflowers (Rocky Mountain Nature Association, 2015). Currently, she’s the Executive Director for Sheep Mountain Alliance.
The theme this month is “Divinely Human”. On Wednesday, March 4th, Gordon and Robertson will appear as feature guests of Montrose Regional Library’s Open Mic reading, also beginning at 6 p.m.
Following Club announcements and the joint performance in Telluride, the group will take a short break, after which the gourd will be passed around the room to give Club members and attendees a chance to read poems from the monthly theme. Shared pieces may be the reader’s own or the work of a favorite writer. In April, National Poetry Month, the featured poet will be Robert King of Greeley (although soon to move to Loveland).
Talking Gourds is a program of the Telluride Institute in partnership with the Wilkinson Library, the Montrose Regional Library, Between the Covers Bookstore, Ah Haa School for the Arts, Telluride Arts District, Arroyo Telluride and the newly formed Telluride Literary Arts. Members meet monthly, on first-Tuesday evenings, at Arroyo Fine Art Gallery & Wine Bar at 220 E. Colorado Ave. beginning at 6 p.m. (next door to Ace Hardware). The same guest(s) will appear at the Montrose Regional Library’s Open Mic the next evening. For more info, contact Meg Nagel at: <www.montroselibrary.org/event/open-mic-10>
Talking Gourds is indebted to generous donations from Audrey Marnoy, Peter Waldor and the Montrose Friends of the Library. Call 970-729-0220 or visit the Gourds website <talkinggourds.weebly.com> for more info.
