Berkeley Poet Lynne Knight reads on River Trail Sept. 12
TELLURIDE – The Telluride Institute’s Talking Gourds Poetry Club is proud to host Berkeley poet Lynne Knight for a special reading at the Sklare/Weiss Memorial Deck on the River Trail next to the San Miguel River this coming Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 at 1 p.m.
The reading will be preceded by a memorial dedication ceremony at the deck site starting at noon. Knight is the sister-in-law of Louis Weiss.
A graduate of the University of Michigan and Syracuse University, where she was a fellow in poetry, Knight spent 41 years teaching at the high school and college level, and currently works writing and translating in Berkeley (CA). She’s written many books and won numerous awards, including the Rattle Poetry Prize (2009), the Theodore Roethke Award (2007) and the Prix de l’Alliance Française aux Etats-Unis (2006).
Widely published in national journals, her books include Dissolving Borders (1996), Snow Effects (2000),The Book of Common Betrayals (2002), Deer in Berkeley (2003), Life as Weather (2004), Defying the Flat Surface (2005), Night in the Shape of a Mirror (2006), Again (2009), and her most recent, a translation of Ito Naga’s I Know (Je sais).
In case of inclement weather, Knight’s poetry reading will move from the River Trail to Between the Covers bookstore (1 p.m.)
In cooperation with the Montrose Regional Library, the regular Talking Gourds fall/winter poetry reading series continues with Laurie James of Salida October 6th and 7th, and Vonda Harris of Delta and Carol McDermott of Montrose November 3rd and 4th. We’ll be ending the year with the husband/wife poetry team of Ruth Duffy and Michael Olchewsky of Nucla December 1st and 2nd.
Talking Gourds Poetry Club is a program of the Telluride Institute in partnership with the Wilkinson Library, the Montrose Regional Library, Between the Covers Bookstore, Ah Haa School for the Arts and Arroyo Telluride. Members meet monthly, on first-Tuesday evenings, at Arroyo Fine Art Gallery & Wine Bar at 220 E. Colorado Ave. beginning at 6 p.m. (next door to Ace Hardware).
