2018 FISCHER PRIZE RULES & PROCEDURES
General Rules:
Open to any and all poets living in the United States and its Territories, or American citizens living overseas.
Any style, any content.
Three letter-size pages max per poem, with 12 pt. font size minimum.
Follow the rules. Incomplete submissions may be ruled ineligible, if not remedied by the contest deadline, and fees forfeited.
Notifications of winners will be posted on the TalkingGourds.weebly.com website in late May.
Fees:
Base Fee is $9 per poem. Select the Ticket button on EventBrite.
In addition, our on-line credit card service imposes a processing fee (service charge) on all credit card payments.
There is a ten-poem maximum for submission.

Poetry Club Member Discount
TG Poetry Club members in good standing receive a special half-price discount.
1 poem = $4.50, 2 poems = $9.00, 3 poems = $13.50, 4 poems = $18, 5 poems = $23, 6 poems = $27.50, and so on.

Multiples of Three Discount
2 poems = $18, 3 poems = $20 (4 = $29, 5 = $38, 6 = $40, and so on.
If you submit more than 3 but less than 6 poems, more than 6 but less than 9, or if you submit 10 poems, select the multiple ticket and the single ticket options, specifying the desired number of each.
Snailmail Multiples of Three Discount:
If you snailmail a check in lieu of an on-line credit card transaction, the Base Fee and DIscounts remain the same,
but there is a $1 Service Charge per poem. Thus, one poem is $10, two poems $19, three poems $21, (4 = $30, 5 = $39, 6 = $41, and so on).
All fees and service charges are non-refundable.
Submission Rules
On-line submission form must be completed and submitted. Fee may be paid on-line with a credit card or by check via snailmail.
While payment can be done on-line or by snailmail, each poem has to be sent to Olivia at <[email protected]>, along with bio and photo, and each poem should have the poet’s name and email address on each page. They will be removed when sent for judging. The judge this year is former Santa Fe Poet Laureate Joan Logghe.
Previously published poems are acceptable, so long as the author retains the copyrights. Attribution of previous publisher must be included with these submitted poem(s).
Deadline for complete submissions (completed submission form, poems, bio, photo and payment) is May 1, 2018 by 5 p.m. MST.
Submission to the contest grants one-time use rights of publication of all winning and finalist poems on this website, in press releases, and in any future anthology of work. All other copyrights are retained by the author.
Each poem file should be named using the the poet’s last name
plus the first two words of the poem's title
plus the year submitted.
By way of example, "SnyderPrayerFor18"
Each poem must be a separate file with name and address included on poem -- names and addresses will be removed before judging.
Acceptable formats to send as attachments to an email are .doc, .docx or .pdf.
No multiple poem files are allowed.
Collaborative entries are acceptable. Only the lead poet should be listed on the registration. For collaborating poets, address, photos, bios, etc. must be submitted separately with the email poem submission. Poems translated into English are acceptable. Only one prize and one travel honorarium will be awarded for any winning collaborative poem.
Participants will receive an email confirmation from EventBrite upon reception of the submission fees (including their processing fee) and then Olivia will send an email confirmation upon reception of the emailed poems. If you snailmail submission fees (there will be no processing fee), you can request snailmail notification of entries -- include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with submission.
Winning poets will be announced by email and on our Talking Gourds website <talkinggourds.weebly.com>. If hard-copy notification of winning entries is desired, include a SASE to Olivia.
Send email submission entries to <[email protected]> after filling out the adjacent registration form and paying by credit card or check (via snailmail). In the subject line write "FP Submission" and include each poem file as attachments (not as text). If you would like to submit by snailmail, please send a cover letter that includes required information in the registration form as it appears here, along with with entries and check, as well as permission letter and SASEs (if applicable)
Failure to submit required fields of registration form will invalidate entries, as well as failure to follow submission rules. Invalidated entries must be remedied to be considered, and a $5 handling fee by check via snailmail must be paid before the deadline to be re-considered.
Snail-Mail Rules:
Those who prefer to pay by check must still send poems, bio and photo by email to Olivia at the email address above. No hard copy poems will be accepted in the contest this year.
